What families ask us first.

Can the nurse change the insulin dose?

No. Only the doctor changes doses. The nurse makes sure the doctor has accurate readings to decide on.

Do we need our own glucometer?

It helps. We can suggest a reliable one and check that it's giving accurate readings — a badly calibrated meter causes more problems than no meter.

Will the nurse control what my mother eats?

No, and nobody should promise that. The nurse follows the diet your doctor or dietitian has set, explains it to whoever cooks, and reports honestly on what's actually being eaten.

My father manages his own insulin. Is this still useful?

Often yes. Technique slips over time — the same injection site used for years, a pen not primed, strips stored badly. A nurse catches those things.

What if there's a sudden low-sugar episode?

The nurse follows the protocol your doctor has set and informs you and the doctor. In an emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital first.
