Stroke Recovery

Recovering from a stroke at home, one steady step at a time.

For families supporting someone working to regain movement and independence after a stroke. A Diagnex nurse keeps the physiotherapist's exercises going, keeps movement safe, and keeps every follow-up on track.

A nurse supports an older woman as she practises walking with a stick in her home corridor.

Does this sound familiar?

  • The physio comes twice a week, but the exercises stop in between.
  • Eating and swallowing make you nervous.
  • You're afraid of another fall, so nobody moves much at all.
  • The blood thinner is important and easy to forget.

At each visit

What our nurse does, every time.

Stroke recovery is delivered by condition-trained nurses. A standard visit runs about 75 minutes.

Exercises kept going

The physiotherapist's programme practised between sessions, which is where most of the progress is actually made.

Moving safely

Help with getting up, transferring, and walking with aids, with fall risks removed around the home.

Eating safely

Swallowing precautions followed exactly as the doctor or speech therapist has advised.

Risk factors watched

BP and sugar checked; blood thinners and other medicines given as prescribed, without gaps.

Skin and positioning

Pressure areas checked and positions changed where mobility is still limited.

Progress recorded

What's improving and what isn't, written down for the doctor and the physiotherapist.

Working with your doctor

We work to the physiotherapist's plan, not our own.

Our nurse is not a physiotherapist and doesn't design a rehabilitation programme. What the nurse does is make sure the programme actually happens on the five days nobody is watching, and reports back on progress so the plan can be adjusted.

How care unfolds

The first three months.

An illustrative example, not a real patient.

Month one

Daily visits. Exercises twice a day, transfers practised, and the home rearranged so a walker actually fits through the doorway.

Month two

Visits step down to alternate days as confidence returns. BP and sugar are tracked, because preventing a second stroke matters as much as recovering from the first.

Month three

Twice a week, focused on independence — dressing, standing, getting to the bathroom alone — with progress notes going to the physiotherapist.

Plans and prices

Stroke Recovery is added to the visit plan that suits your situation.

Daily visits usually make sense in the first weeks, stepping down as recovery improves. If discharge was recent, Recovery 30 is often the better starting point.

Stroke recovery, alternate days

About 15 visits a month with a condition-trained nurse, working to your physiotherapist's plan, with a WhatsApp update after every visit. Daily visits in the early weeks are priced on assessment.

Caring for someone younger?

Stroke arrives younger in India than almost anywhere else, and recovery in the forties and fifties carries a different weight — returning to work, driving again, supporting a family that still depends on that income.

The nursing is identical: the physiotherapist's programme, safe movement, risk factors controlled. If you're arranging this for a partner or sibling, tell us on the free call and we'll plan around work and rehab rather than around a retired routine.

Your questions

What families ask us first.

Is the nurse a physiotherapist?

No. The nurse supports the physiotherapist's plan between sessions and keeps them updated on progress. We'll say clearly when something needs the physiotherapist rather than us.

Can you start as soon as my mother comes home?

Yes, if you call us before discharge so the first visit is ready on day one. That first week matters more than any other.

Will the nurse help with bathing and dressing?

No. Our Care Nurses handle clinical care. Help with bathing, dressing or feeding is arranged separately through Diagnex Nursing and Caregiver services, working alongside your nurse.

How long does recovery take?

Nobody can tell you honestly, and we won't pretend to. Most improvement happens in the first three to six months, which is why consistency in those months matters so much.

What about preventing another stroke?

That's a real part of the work — BP, sugar, blood thinners and follow-ups. It's the least visible thing we do and possibly the most valuable.
